NOLAN OFFERS NO EXCUSE AS COUNTY SLIP UP AGAIN
HERO OF THE WEEK
DANNY COWLEY (Lincoln manager): The pressure is on Lincoln after last season’s play-off disappointment led to major investment in the summer. But it’s so far so good for Cowley’s men. An opening day victory at Northampton was followed by Saturday’s 4-1 drubbing of Swindon at Sincil Bank.
ZEROES OF THE WEEK
NOTTS COUNTY: Kevin Nolan (left) had sympathy for his players after last weekend’s 0-0 draw against Colchester. No excuses on Saturday, though. His side switched off in the 90th minute to allow Bradley Corr to score Cambridge’s winner. Nolan needs his players to wake up.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
JORDAN COOK (for Grimsby v Macclesfield): After the poor 4-1 defeat by Forest Green, Grimsby fans needed something to celebrate. Step up Jordan Cook. His right-foot piledriver from 30 yards crashed into the back of Rhys Taylor’s goal to seal a 2-0 victory away from home.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
MICKY MELLON: Tranmere’s first home game in the Football League after a three-year absence ended in victory after James Norwood’s strike proved to be enough to beat Cheltenham. Boss Micky Mellon thought his side’s performance warranted more goals: ‘ We could have had two or three. It really was that good and it’s a first win back in the Football League at Prenton Park. That’s a big boost for us.’
STAT OF THE WEEK
FOUR: There was at least one positive for Swindon to salvage from their 4-1 defeat by Lincoln. Michael Doughty’s contribution from the penalty spot was his fourth goal of the season and he is the league’s leading scorer.
