RECKLESS VARDY RIGHT TO SEE RED

- MARK CLATTENBURG

JAMIE VARDY was out of control when he made the challenge on Matt Doherty in the 66th minute and received a red card from Mike Dean. That is the first thing any referee will take into account. The Leicester striker made contact with the Wolves defender at speed and his studs were showing. It was above the ankle, thus endangering his opponent. It was reckless and there is no doubt it was a red card. Both Vardy and Leicester can have no complaints. I would be very surprised if they even thought about lodging an appeal. Yes, he won the ball, but referees must consider the safety of the players and Vardy has risked injury to Doherty because of his excessive force.
