BEST BUYS
Prince Alexandre Cremant de Loire, £9.69 (normally £12.99), Waitrose IF YOU need smart bubbles but don’t want to splash out madly, this is the Loire Valley’s answer to champagne. Light and lemony with that distinctive toasty character, it’s a steal.
WHITE WINE
Truly Irresistible Gavi 2017, £8.49, Co-op THE grape is Cortese, the region is Gavi in North-West Italy’s Piedmont region, and given its fashion credentials, this is surprisingly good value. Fresh and crisp, peach and citrus flavours, dangerously drinkable.
FOOD PAIRING: Grilled chicken.
RED WINE
Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages, £9.50 (normally £11), Tesco REFRESHINGLY light and juicy, this is serious without being too heavy. Made from the Gamay grape, it tastes of just-squashed raspberries and black cherries.
