Will BBC Radio 2 audience miss Chris Evans?

-

CHRIS EVANS did a great job with the relaunch of Radio 2’s breakfast show, but my ‘off’ button got pressed increasingly in recent years as his zaniness, rushed speech and ability to drone on too long got the better of him. Who will succeed him? Please, not one of the excitable ladettes! Let’s have a bit more calmness, a lot more humour and the fabulously dulcet tones of the great Simon Mayo — on his own.

WENDY DOEL, Hook, Hants. WITH Chris Evans leaving the BBC, it would be a good time to look at his replacement’s rate of pay. Since 10 per cent of his salary is almost twice the Prime Minister’s, this could be the starting point. But since a woman is tipped to replace him, any pay cut would be unacceptable on gender equality grounds. MICHAEL ALBIN, Blackburn, Lancs.

IT’S good news that Chris Evans is leaving Radio 2. The man is a joke who has ruined my early-morning listening with his childish remarks aimed at the under-30s. Virgin is welcome to him. F. MATTHEWS, Dunure, Ayr.

I HOPE Chris Evans is not replaced by another presenter who is just as unsuited to the role. The true legend of Radio 2’s breakfast show was Terry Wogan, who gently eased the listener into the morning — not the juvenile, shouty Evans. ERIC CROSS, Hullbridge, Essex.

PERHAPS now in the morning we will be able to hear a whole song without inane comments spoiling it. Even when Chris Evans describes a record as wonderful, he talks over the end of it.

RONALD BALL, Farnborough, Hants.
