Jumping Jack flashes cash!

- By GLEN WILLIAMS

MICK JAGGER has promised to give £20,000 to charity for every century and five-wicket haul in the final Test between England and India at the Oval. The Rolling Stones singer, a lifelong cricket fanatic, has also pledged to donate £10,000 each time a player from either side notches a half-century or takes three wickets. Jagger, whose father was a PE teacher, has travelled to watch World Cups and Ashes tours. He has also invested in the cricket website Cricinfo. The charity, Chance to Shine, is dedicated to getting children involved in the game through schools’ cricket campaigns throughout the country. ‘I follow England — the game in general, in fact — from wherever I am in the world and thought this would be a fun way to make some money for Chance to Shine,’ said 75-year-old Jagger (below). ‘It has been an exciting series that has got people talking cricket so let’s reflect that. ‘With every inspiring performance comes a new fan and the younger those fans are, the better it is for cricket’s future. ‘No pressure on either Joe Root’s guys or Virat Kohli’s — though the bigger they go at the Oval the better!’ In addition, the ECB has agreed to match all donations to the charity until the end of the month. England secured a series win over India by taking an unassailable 3-1 lead after the fourth Test at the Ageas Bowl. They head into the last Test of the summer in what will be Alastair Cook’s final outing as an England player. How fitting it would be if his century helps to give such a vast sum back to the game after how much pleasure he has given English cricket fans over the last decade.
