The party favourite who backs Iran’s ayatollahs
THE most popular candidate in the election to win posts on Labour’s ruling body, the NEC, has praised Iranian ayatollahs and shared a platform with an Israel-hating academic.
Yasmine Dar won 88,176 votes at the National Executive Committee event in Manchester.
But for the past three years she has joined celebrations of the Iranian revolution, when hardline ayatollahs took over the country, repressing freedom and human rights. At last year’s event, she said: ‘We are here for a celebration. Thirty years of the Iranian Islamic revolution. I’m absolutely happy.’
Also at the NEC event in Manchester was anti-Zionist academic Rodney Shakespeare, who told the audience how British and US foreign policy was being manipulated so Israel could expand to ‘occupy the lands it claims were part of biblical Israel of 2,000 years ago’.
