BARGAIN OF THE WEEK

VdV Organic Verdejo 2017, £7 (normally £8), Co-op A GORGEOUS orange-scented white made from Spain’s verdejo grape grown in Castilla. The vineyard relies on natural plant-based infusions to keep the vines healthy.

WHITE WINE

Exquisite Collection Australian Sauvignon Blanc 2017, £5.99, Aldi BLENDED exclusivel­y for Aldi by one of Australia’s great winemakers, David Hohnen, with his daughter Freya. Crisp, fresh and full of zippy lime fruit flavours.

Grilled salmon.

RED WINE

Zalze Shiraz/Mourvedre/Viognier 2016, £7.25, Morrisons BIG, bramble fruit-laden red from South Africa’s Stellenbos­ch region made from a blend of three grapes, one of which is white. A dash of Viognier is added to the Shiraz and Mourvedre wine to give it an aromatic lift. It’s then aged in French oak barrels for a year.

Steak pie.

SPARKLING WINE

Cave de Lugny Sparkling Burgundy Brut NV, £10.49 (normally £13.99), Waitrose LOVE this creamy, biscuity crémant from Burgundy, made just like champagne, with a second bubbleindu­cing bottle fermentati­on. It’s even made from one of the classic champagne grapes, Chardonnay.
