Meghan’s netball kit? High heels and a £1,600 designer top!

- By Rebecca English Royal Correspondent

IT wasn’t the most appropriate attire for a game of netball – a £1,636 Oscar de la Renta top and high heels.

But the Duchess of Sussex certainly gave it a good go, throwing and catching the ball against her husband, Prince Harry, who gave his wife a quick hug when his team beat hers.

The couple were at Loughborough University yesterday to hand out awards on behalf of Coach Core, one of the charities supported by their Royal Foundation.

The organisation helps pair young people who are not in education or employment with the biggest sports clubs in the country, providing tuition and paying them a wage, in order to become the sports coaches of the future.

More than 200 apprentices took part in yesterday’s event, joining in a variety of masterclasses with sports stars including marathon runner Paula Radcliffe, tennis star Laura Robson and netballer Eboni Beckford-Chambers.

But all eyes were on Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, when they arrived.

The duchess, in a draped blouse with a tiered asymmetrical waist, sported a new hairstyle.

Her tresses appeared to be longer and straighter, as opposed to the curls she has recently favoured, and had been styled with a distinctive middle parting.

After meeting some of the young people taking part, the royal couple immediately got stuck in to the netball. Harry led his team to a 3-2 victory over Meghan’s, but in the eyes of one of the prince’s teammates, 7ft 1in ex-basketball player David Robinson, that may have been a mistake.

‘You’ve always got to put your wife centre stage,’ said Robinson, 53, who played for the San Antonio Spurs. ‘They are newly married, so he is learning that.’
