INDIAN OIL TREATMENT

EVERY week, I soak my hair overnight in a half-cup mix of amla oil, sourced from Indian gooseberry fruit (£3.49, superdrug.com), and almond oil (£2.47,

hollandandbarrett.com). It’s an Indian tradition my mother taught me. She used to massage it into the whole family’s hair every Friday — and still did it for me right up until my wedding day! It is super-hydrating, so keeps my long hair healthy and shiny. I also get highlights put in just twice a year, which helps to limit the damage caused by colouring.

MIDLIFE HIKING

I GOT into mountain climbing in my 40s; it’s never too late to start. I’m a firm believer that age is just a number — it’s all about your mindset. At 46, I did my first one-day trek in the Himalayas. It was exhausting, but gave me a real sense of achievement. This year, I’ve climbed Snowdon and Ben Nevis to raise money for charity.

MONTHLY SPA DUO

MY JOB can be emotionally draining, so I always make time for self-care. I treat myself to two hours of pampering at CoLaz spa once a month: first a Swedish body massage, then a facial (£50 and £55, colaz.co.uk). It’s so relaxing and I sleep much better afterwards. Plus, I have very dry skin, so it helps to add moisture and a natural glow.

INSTAGRAM ADDICT

TWO years ago, my kids recommended I got Instagram. At first, I had no idea how to use it, but now I’m hooked! It helps me feel relevant and up to date with new trends. Plus, I’m a big yoga fan, so I follow fitness experts to get tips for new poses. It’s more fun to create my own routines than do the same weekly workout at the gym.

THE TURMERIC DIET

I USE turmeric in everything: it’s an amazing anti-inflammatory and good for the skin. As a child, I would drink a mug of hot milk, turmeric and honey at night to get to sleep. I still add it to my morning coffee. Plus, it makes a great face mask: mix half a teaspoon with the juice of half a lemon to brighten skin. I wear it while doing housework.
