Grooming gangs ‘shame their Pakistani heritage’

-

THE Home Secretary told yesterday of his sadness and anger that many child grooming gangs have Pakistani heritage.

In his keynote speech to the Tory conference, Sajid Javid said the paedophiles were a disgrace to their background

Mr Javid, the son of a Pakistani bus driver, was born in Rochdale where one of the worst gangs preyed on girls as young as 13.

Nine Pakistani men were jailed in 2012 for a total of 77 years for the horrific sex attacks. Mr Javid said: ‘I will not let cultural or political sensitivities get in the way of understanding the problem and doing something about it.

‘It is a statement of fact – a fact which both saddens and angers me – that most men in recent high-profile gang convictions have had Pakistani heritage. This behaviour is a disgrace to that heritage. I’ve instructed my officials to look into this unflinchingly. Where the evidence suggests there are cultural factors driving this, I will not hesitate to act.’
