£200 fee to switch your energy deal

ENERGY suppliers are charging fixed-deal customers as much as £200 if they switch.

New figures by uSwitch show 43 pc of tariffs on the market now come with exit fees, compared to just 21 pc last year. Suppliers typically charge customers £30 per fuel if they move before the end of their deal.

But one supplier, Engie, charges dual fuel customers £200 to leave its Control June 21 deal, which is fixed until the end of June 2021. Npower, First Utility and Extra Energy all charge customers as much as £100 to leave.

A spokesman for Engie says: ‘Our standard dual fuel exit fee is £60, in line with the industry average. Control June 21 carries a smart device exit fee.’ A First Utility spokesman also says that it follows the ‘industry average’.
