Ladies of leather! Meghan’s not the only royal on trend
ANYONE who doesn’t believe leather is trendy again is clearly on a royal hiding to nothing.
For the material earned its second stunning royal endorsement in as many days yesterday.
On Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex wore a £369 lambskin pencil skirt by Hugo Boss as she and Prince Harry made their first official visit to Sussex.
Meghan teamed the green kneelength skirt with a £ 69 blouse, £1,695 green handbag and £1,669 Armani coat for the trip, which included visits to Bognor , Brighton and Chichester.
Yesterday Queen Letizia of Spain stepped out in Madrid wearing black leather trousers under an elegant raspberry Atos Lombardini coat as she attended a meeting about training and job opportunities for young adults.
Letizia, 45, a former television reporter who married King Felipe in 2004, is a style icon in Spain and known for her fondness for leather trousers. Meghan is also stamping her style on her forthcoming tour with Harry of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tonga.
Out go some of the ‘blokey’ events that have characterised Harry’s previous trips and in come more events to highlight women’s empowerment.
The tour, which involves 76 engagements in 16 days, begins on October 16 and the couple’s private secretary Samantha Cohen said yesterday: ‘This is a different kind of visit [to that of] a single man going on a tour.’
Meghan has several solo duties, including a speech at an event to celebrate the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New Zealand.
Fun engagements will include the chance to stroke a koala in Sydney, a traditional Aussie barbecue and a welly-throwing competition.
