Share scandal profits
CONGRATULATIONS on the Mail’s exposure of the Motability Operations money scandal.
Motability, which provides adapted vehicles, scooters and powered wheelchairs for people with disabilities, is an excellent service for those in receipt of personal Independence payments (PIP), but it should not be used as a money-making scheme.
My son is a Motability customer and has been for the past 12 years. He has mild cerebral palsy, severe learning difficulties, epilepsy and autism. Having a car is essential for his quality of life, as we live in a rural area. It is taxpayers’ cash which funds PIP and I am very grateful for this money, to which my son is fully entitled.
It can be difficult and stressful to obtain PIP, even if someone has been disabled from birth. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for any money recovered as part of the investigation into Motability Operations to be shared out among its customers?
Being a single mother to a child with special needs has been difficult financially. My son is a lovely chap and well worth looking after, but I’ve been unable to work due to sleepless nights, being on- call and needing enough energy to attend to his needs.
Unpaid carers save the government a vast amount of money. Sharing out any recovered cash between Motability customers would offer a little respite from the financial compromises they have had to make.
