Er, lucky we bagged our spots so early...

- By David Wilkes

AS A seasoned veteran of such events, royal superfan Kerry Evans thought she’d better get there nice and early to bag a prime viewing spot for Princess Eugenie’s wedding.

So, mindful of the huge crowds that flocked to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s big day in May, the 54-yearold mother of three travelled from her home near Hull to Windsor on Tuesday.

‘But there was no one else here,’ she said yesterday as she sat in her deck chair on the High Street opposite the castle. ‘I got a tour bus round the town on Wednesday so I could see if other people were camping out somewhere else because I thought I must have got the procession route wrong.’

She hadn’t. By noon yesterday, however, Mrs Evans, a carer, had been joined by two other hardcore royal fans, Bartly Graham, 30, and his sister Cassandra Graham, 20, both from Willington, County Durham.

The sight of the three of them was a far cry from the heaving streets on the eve of Harry’s wedding and the electric atmosphere which swept the town for days before it.

Mrs Evans said: ‘I was at Harry’s wedding and William’s, and I’m quite surprised there’s not more people here. I think maybe it’s because this one’s too close to the last royal wedding.

‘Or maybe it’s because there isn’t the “American effect” there was with Meghan. I’ve camped out in my sleeping bag so far but think I’ll book myself in somewhere tonight and tomorrow night now.’

During the afternoon the number of fans on the street swelled into double figures – despite wind and showers.
