STRAIGHT TO THE POINT

-

I ORDERED a sudoku book from Amazon in December, but I didn’t realise until August that I’d unwittingly subscribed to the Amazon Prime service, paying £7.99 a month. How did this happen? B. S., Newbury, Berks. AMAZON says its customers are offered the option of signing up for a 30-day free trial at the checkout. If the trial is not cancelled within 30 days, the customer is automatically signed up at a cost of £7.99 a month.

A spokesman says the process is ‘clear and transparent’, with a confirmation email sent to you if you do sign up. However, Amazon has apologised for not handling your complaint better and has refunded your £63.92. It has also sent you a £20 gift card. WHEN I moved home, I provided my energy supplier, Ovo, with final meter readings. The firm contacted me to say I had overpaid and sent me a refund of £248.39. But, several weeks later, Ovo emailed to say I still owed it £158.77. L. T., Hessle, East Riding of Yorkshire. OVO had calculated your bill using estimated readings that were lower than the ones you’d provided. This led to a refund. It then issued another incorrect bill of £158.77. When the firm rebilled your account using the correct readings, it found you owed £128.77.

Ovo has apologised and, as a gesture of goodwill, has wiped £48.77 off your bill. MY EASYJET flight to Belfast was delayed by more than seven hours. I made an online compensation claim, but easyJet said it couldn’t find my booking. I sent it a photocopy of my boarding pass but, despite calling and emailing repeatedly, I’ve received no response. Can you help? R. B., South Shields, Tyne and Wear. eASYJeT says it is sorry that your flight was delayed as a result of a technical issue. It has now been in contact with you to apologise and is processing your claim. IF I DECIDE to have my state pension paid into a bank account instead of my Post Office card account, will it change how often I get my money? I’m worried it will change from weekly to every four weeks. C. C., by email. THere’S no need to worry. The Department for Work and Pensions confirmed that it will stay the same.
