Council may ditch order to tear out flowerbed

- Daily Mail Reporter

A COUNCIL that caused an outcry after ordering a retired couple to rip out a roadside flowerbed because it was deemed a ‘danger’ may back down.

For the past 16 years Brian and Sally Williams have tended the flowerbed on a verge opposite their 200year- old cottage, filling it with blooms to brighten up the village of Loxley near Sheffield.

But, after one neighbour complained, Sheffield City Council gave them a week to remove it, saying it a danger to drivers using the narrow lane. Now city councillor Jack Scott, has responsibility for transport, has come out in support of the couple and has said he is hopeful they will be able to keep the flowerbed.

Mrs Williams, 69, is keeping the champagne on ice until she receives official confirmation of any decision.
