Satellite choice
BRITISH FILM CLASSIC Woman In A Dressing Gown, 11.50am, Talking Pictures
J. LEE THOMPSON’S social drama was way ahead of its time. Yvonne Mitchell is spellbinding as the imperfect middle-aged housewife whose equally depressed husband (Anthony Quayle) is having an affair with his more polished secretary (Sylvia Syms).
BODY-SWAP COMEDY Freakyy Friday,y, 5.30pm,p, Disney y
THERE’S a twist to this one-oneoff TV adaptation of the body-swap tale — it’s a musical. Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff (pictured) play the daughter and mum swapping places in a production that feels very much like the stage show it’s based on. (Sky 609, Virgin 724)
FOOTBALL Sheffield Wednesday v Middlesbrough, 7pm, Sky Football & Main Event
TOGETHER with Leeds, Boro, under Tony Pulis, were the early Championship pacesetters. They’ve lost some impetus of late, slipping to fourth, but a win at Hillsborough tonight would take them back to the top of the table.
SUPERHERO RETURNS Daredevil, Netflix
AFTER the beating he took at the end of season two, blind lawyer Matt Murdock isn’t worth much as a vigilante any more. Is the battered hero even beyond the reach of a back-from-the-brink, Rocky-style training montage? Time will tell. The definite good news this season, though, is that Vincent D’Onofrio is back as Kingpin, Matt’s brilliantly three-dimensional nemesis.
FACT-BASED FILM The 15:17 To Paris, 8pm, Sky Premiere
IN A dramatisation of a real-life act of heroism, Clint Eastwood directs three of the heroes themselves. While travelling on a train from Amsterdam to Paris, Americans Alek Skarlatos, Anthony Sadler and Spencer Stone confront and stop an armed attacker.
SOUL LEGEND Life And Death Of Sam Cooke, 9pm, Sky Arts
ON DECEMBER 11, 1964, the singer of Cupid was shot through the heart at a seedy LA hotel, in mysterious circumstances. He was 33. This new documentary takes a soulful look back at his talent and his story, and hears from those close to him.
SUPERNATURAL SAGA A Discovery Of Witches, 9pm, Sky One
DIANA hears disturbing news about Matthew’s sense of morals — then we are shown her bloodsucking beau striding around provocatively in his pants, to further confuse what we should make of him. Other than that, there’s a lot more of Trevor Eve’s definitely evil vampire.
MASTER OF ILLUSION Derren Brown: Sacrifice, Netflix
IN HIS first special for Netflix, the illusionist tries to persuade a member of the public to take a bullet for a stranger. It is, as always, mindboggling stuff.
BIG LAUGHS My Favourite Sketch, 10pm, Gold
THERE’S a deeply silly vein running through Bob Mortimer’s choice of sketches, which include Fry and Laurie and Spike Milligan. Also — and quite out of the blue — Bob (pictured) recalls thinking he was dying after his heart bypass, when he saw and passed through a ‘beautiful circle of yew hedges’.
