HIGHLIGHTS OF TOMORROW’S ASCOT CHAMPIONS DAY
3.50: CHAMPION STAKES (£1.3m)
John Gosden uses blinkers for the first time on Cracksman as the brilliant 2017 winner bids to end his career on a high after a frustrating season. Rivals include Aidan O’Brien’s Arc fifth Capri.
3.15: QE II STAKES (£1.1m)
As anticipated, the testing Ascot ground has persuaded Gosden to drop Roaring Lion back to a mile for the first time since he was fifth in the 2,000 Guineas in May. It will be tough, with rivals including Laurens and big French hope Recoletos.
2.40: FILLIES’ & MARES’ STAKES (£600,000)
Andre Fabre-trained Prix Vermeille Stakes winner Kitesurf could be the one to beat for Gosdentrained, Frankie Dettoriridden Lah Ti Dar.
1.25: LONG DISTANCE CUP (£530,000)
After earning a £1m bonus for winning the Yorkshire Cup, Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup, Stradivarius was given a break to freshen him up. Now he attempts to improve on last year’s third place in this race.
