Emery: Arsenal still have a lot to learn

SURELY YOU CAN TACKLE THE BOSS, MESUT?!

JUST as his predecessor used to regularly call for calm, so too is Unai Emery asking the Arsenal support for a little restraint. The difference being that Emery was yesterday trying to suppress optimism rather than subdue a rabble. That’s a sign of the times between how it was under Arsene Wenger in his latter years and under Emery in the early days of his reign, with Arsenal steaming along on a nine-match winning streak. The most recent of those victories, a 5-1 drubbing of Fulham, even prompted a chant of ‘We’ve got our Arsenal back’ from the fans. But, for now, Emery is focused more on his side’s shortcomings. ‘I am not agreeing totally with the response of the supporters,’ said Emery, whose side sit fourth and face Leicester on Monday. ‘We need to improve a lot. We have to continue doing a lot of things to get better. The supporters can enjoy it with us but also we’re (dealing) with our reality every day. ‘We need to improve because, for example, the match against Fulham was a very good result… but in the first 45 minutes I thought we needed to do better.’ Meanwhile, Emery has told Aaron Ramsey that his focus must not drop despite the uncertainty over his future. Emery said: ‘On Monday, if he starts or is on the bench, he has to come with the focus to help us. It’s not different than it is for other players.’
