THIS IS WHAT 51 LOOKS LIKE
Lynn Bye lives in yorkshire with her husband, Richard. They have two children, Josh, 20 and Jake, 24. She is co-founder of a cycling gear business.
BOTOX BOOST
THIS year, I tried Botox for the first time, to smooth the lines on my forehead and around my eyes (£300). It gave me a lovely post-holiday glow — my goal isn’t to change my face, but to make the most of it. I had it again after three months. Plus I go with a friend, which makes it much more fun: she calls our trips the ‘Botox express’!
DAILY ROSEHIP OIL
OILS are underrated. Instead of a daily moisturiser, I use Sukin Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil (£13.30, boots.
com). It’s rich in vitamins A and C and other antioxidants, which keep skin healthy, firm and hydrated. I apply a few drops in the morning and at night. It sinks in quickly, but feels very light.
MENOPAUSE YOGA
I HIT the menopause two years ago. I often wake up in the night with hot flushes. My husband says it’s affected my mood, but I refuse to be negative. Yoga helps me to stay physically and mentally strong. It’s my own form of pampering — a chance to focus on myself. I’d much rather go to a class than get a massage. They also teach breathing and meditation techniques that help me fall back to sleep.
BLOW-DRY FRIDAYS
EVERY Friday, I get a blow-dry at my local salon (£21) — an indulgence, but it’s worth it. I started the ritual five years ago after I got a heated curling brush stuck in my hair at home — it took the hairdresser 15 minutes to get it out. Since then, I’ve never done my own hair. It adds volume, while keeping my hair in good condition, as I don’t wash it in between.
FUTUREPROOF FITNESS
MY BODY changed a lot in my 40s. I was busy at work and let things slip — we set up the cycling business in 2013. So, for my 50th birthday, I treated myself to a personal trainer instead of a party. I went weekly for nine months. He helped me tone up. I’m inspired by one of his clients, Margaret, who does ballet at 78. I want to make sure I’m as fit in future.
