Football fans ‘should pay 20p pie tax to fund NHS’
FOOTBALL fans who enjoy a pie and a pint may find the idea difficult to swallow.
The struggling North Middlesex University Hospital Trust wants to see a 20p levy introduced on food and drink served at neighbouring London club Tottenham Hotspur to ease its financial problems. If adopted by the Premier League outfit at their brand new 62,000-seat stadium, it could lead to similar charges at other clubs.
Proposals in the Trust’s board papers said the scheme could raise around £300,000 a year from 2020-21, the Health Service Journal reports.
A spokesman said the suggestion was ‘very much at the idea stage’. Tottenham Hotspur said it was unaware of the proposal.
