GOEBBELS, in a hysterical attack broadcast from every german radio station, found a new theory on how the Athenia [the first British ship destroyed in World War ii] was sunk — saying that three British destroyers were used to sink the liner. he went on to claim that Mr Winston churchill is the chief inciter of this war. churchill last night said the speech was too full of propaganda and too fantastic to warrant a reply.

COMEDIAN Jimmy tarbuck, 23, who made his TV debut on saturday, is to star in ITV’s top variety show, sunday night At the London Palladium next sunday. his manager, Mr terry Miller, has told Jimmy: ‘get your hair cut.’ he added: ‘We think Jimmy is one of the biggest finds in years, but we don’t “dig” his Beatles-type haircut.’

DIANA DORS (193184). Born Diana Mary Fluck, the UK’s answer to Marilyn Monroe described herself as ‘the only sex symbol Britain has produced since Lady godiva’. For the 1955 Venice Film Festival, Diana asked designer Julie harris to make her a mink bikini (pictured). Julie thought it was a vulgar idea, but it proved a great publicity stunt. Julie said later the bikini was made of rabbit, not mink.

DAME ANITA RODDICK (1942-2007). the West sussex-born founder of the Body shop joked that she chose green as the brand’s colour to cover up the mould on the walls of her first run- down shop in Brighton. she died leaving nothing to her children — because she’d already given her £51 million fortune away to charity.
