ALICE IN WONDERLAND seizures are terrifying for those experiencing them, as the brain’s perception of the body goes haywire. Like Alice after she drank the magical potion, sufferers feel that parts of their body are getting huge or tiny, or that their whole body is either shrinking or elongating. THE LIFE SCIENTIFIC (RADIO 4, 9AM, 9.30PM) hears from Suzanne O’Sullivan, a neurologist who helps sufferers from this syndrome, plus other maladies induced by the brain or by the subconscious. Suzanne also wrote a book called All In Your Head, about patients who suffer from psychosomatic illnesses, but whose symptoms are all too real.
MARK GOODIER (RADIO 2, 9.30AM), who is looking after Ken Bruce’s
show all this week, invites Kacey Musgraves (pictured) into the Radio 2 Piano Room. The Texan-born country star brought a new album out in the spring and is touring the UK. She’ll give a live session of songs on this morning’s show.
VERDI’S Requiem is usually performed with professional soloists and an amateur choir. For tonight’s RADIO 3 IN CONCERT (7.30PM), conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano, the choir is the professional Royal Opera Chorus, who will take Verdi’s masterpiece of grief, drama and consolation to a sublime level.
