A lasting LEGACY

HOW LEAVING A GIFT IN YOUR WILL CAN HELP FUND LIFE-SAVING RESEARCH

-

IN OUR LIFETIME, around half of us in the UK will develop cancer. But, while it’s a frightening time, we’re far more likely to survive today than ever before. An integral part of this has been the pioneering, worldleading work by Cancer Research UK into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer that has helped save millions of lives.

Cancer Research UK has been at the heart of the progress that has already seen survival in the UK double in the last 40 years.

Today, two people in four survive their cancer for at least ten years. Cancer Research UK’s ambition is to accelerate progress so that, by 2034, three people in four will survive their cancer for at least a decade.

But this work can’t be carried out without your support, because the charity receives no government funding for its life-saving research. Every step it takes towards beating cancer relies on every pound donated. Your donations – a third of which are left as gifts in wills – allow it to continue to produce ground-breaking research. These currently include:

A clinical trial of the new AST-VAC2 vaccine, the first of its kind, to treat lung cancer by teaching the immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells.

Launching the Brain Tumour Awards, which give up to £10m to scientists working on the biology of brain tumours, which are currently little understood and hard to treat.

Funding research to develop a

test to identify tumour DNA in our blood cells, potentially an early warning of cancer.

A study at the Barts Cancer Institute in London, using the past history of a tumour to predict its future, helping make treatments more effective.

These vital research projects are why it’s more important than ever before to leave a gift in your will to help beat cancer. Together with its partners and supporters, Cancer Research UK’s vision is to hasten the day when all cancers are cured. Cancer Research UK is a registered charity in England and Wales (1089464), Scotland (SCO41666) and the Isle of Man (1103).
