...as ex-soldier hands back his medal in disgust
A MILITARY veteran has sent his service medal back to the Prime Minister in disgust at the investigations into IRA deaths.
In the Commons yesterday, Labour MP Rosie Duffield held up the medal from one of her Canterbury constituents, who she did not name, during defence questions about legal action against soldiers who served during the Troubles.
Miss Duffield told MPs: ‘My constituent received this service medal, which he has asked me to personally return to the Prime Minister on receipt of a very distressing letter by the Historical Enquiries Team.’
Armed Forces minister Mark Lancaster said: ‘There are frankly few issues in my 1 years in Parliament which I have found the House unify over to such an extent. The consultation has recently closed and I can reassure the House – speaking as a serviceman – how keen we are to act.’
