‘HYPOCRITE’ ATTACK OVER DYSON CAR
SIR James Dyson was branded a ‘hypocrite’ yesterday after deciding to build a new electric car in Singapore despite being one of the UK’s most ardent Brexit supporters.
The billionaire’s firm was criticised for showing ‘no confidence’ in Britain by announcing it would create thousands of jobs abroad instead.
The firm, based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, insisted the decision was based on the ‘highly-skilled
workforce in Singapore and had nothing to do with Brexit.
But EU supporters pounced on the decision. Labour MP Wes Streeting said: ‘The stench of hypocrisy from Sir James Dyson is overwhelming.
‘On the one hand he is saying don’t worry about Brexit – businesses will be queuing up to manufacture in Britain. On the other hand he is basing manufacturing and creating hundreds of jobs in Singapore.’
And fellow Labour MP Ian Murray said: ‘It’s hardly a vote of confidence in global Britain.’
Dyson chief executive Jim Rowan said: ‘The decision of where to make out car is complex, based on supply chains, access to markets and the availability of the expertise that will help us achieve our ambitions.’
