I haVeN’T always been Mrs May’s biggest fan. The Prime Minister made serious misjudgments early in her premiership and, as a result, her job has been much harder than it needed to be.

however, there is no doubting that, in recent months, Theresa has shown serious mettle.

here is a woman under constant attack, mocked in Brussels, pilloried from within her own party and, recently, subjected to vile threats. Yet she soldiers on, dogged, determined and displaying iron discipline in the face of increasingly deranged opposition.

The result? look at the latest polling: despite everything, the conservatives are ahead by every measure.

The vultures may be circling at Westminster but, in the real world, people see a woman showing immense grace under pressure and doing her best under virtually impossible circumstances.
