In Diana’s footsteps... Kate sparkles wearing stunning Love Knot tiara princess treasured
THE Duchess of Cambridge wore one of Princess Diana’s favourite tiaras at a state banquet with the King and Queen of the Netherlands last night.
Kate and Prince William made their way to Buckingham Palace to meet Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander where they were guests of the Queen.
The Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara was loaned to Diana by the Queen in 1981 as a wedding gift. Although she opted to wear the Spencer Tiara – a family heirloom – on her wedding day, the Lovers Knot later became a favourite.
After her death in 1997, the tiara was not seen until Kate wore it at a reception in 2015. She last wore it in July when welcoming Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain.
Other guests last night included the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
Earlier in the day, the Dutch monarch had to resort to some nifty footwork when he was welcomed to Britain at a ceremony at Horse Guards Parade in Central London.
King Willem-Alexander towered over the Queen but stooped low so they could see eye to eye at the start of the two-day state visit with Queen Maxima. At 5ft 10in, she too had a considerable height advantage over her 5ft4in British counterpart – especially wearing vertiginous stiletto heels.
