Daughters of the Cross boot Sir Toby out of care
The colourful baronet Sir Toby Clarke is being turfed out of his care home — at the age of 79.
St Wilfrid’s, in Chelsea, which has been run by The Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liege for 35 years, is being forced to close its doors in March as it has become uneconomical to run — and management wants everyone out by Christmas.
Fortunately, Old etonian Sir Toby has a home to go to.
‘he has his own flat, which his ex-wife is making fit for purpose for him, as he needs 24-hour care.
‘But like everyone else, he is not happy about having to leave,’ says a spokesman.
‘We are trying to make sure that everyone has somewhere to go by Christmas.’
The aristocrat, who is a relative of the late U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt through his grandmother, has been at St Wilfrid’s since February.
Another resident, Rada Boam from Slovakia, is less fortunate. She has been living at the care home for six years and celebrates her 104th birthday on December 1. She has no family to go to as they were wiped out by the Nazis.
