What a cop out

THE police say they will no longer deal with lost property due to the cost (Mail). What a feeble excuse.

I am a retired police sergeant who was responsible for lost property. The system consisted of a found property book and a lost property book. Smaller items were given a paper label and kept on a shelf in a cupboard while larger items were put in an outside store.

All of this took only minutes of the time of front counter staff, who were there anyway.

This latest cop out is a charter for finders keepers to be legitimised. HUGH NETHERCOT,
