SHE was a picture of confidence in a slinky gold sequined dress on Strictly Come Dancing last weekend.

Now Kate Silverton has revealed the reason for her self-assurance – she has dropped two dress sizes since the series began in September.

The BBC newsreader, 48, marvelled at her toned figure and emerging abs thanks to her weight loss – and joked that her professional dance partner Aljaz Skorjanec was a ‘hard taskmaster’.

On ITV’s This Morning yesterday, she said: ‘All these muscles that have been lying dormant so long have suddenly come back in and I’m getting abs again and everything. I had to be remeasured. I’ve gone down two dress sizes.’

Discussing her partner’s ‘tough love’ approach to training, she joked: ‘He’s a hard taskmaster. I don’t get lunch.’ The mother of two has a newfound love of dance, saying: ‘It is so addictive and so joyous. I would recommend it to everyone.

‘Having started from absolute scratch, I’m feeling much more in my skin learning the steps and everything.’

She admitted she still had nerves, but said that playing a character in routines helped . Recently, for example, she danced as Jessica Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

‘It helps you get over the nerves,’ she said. ‘If you are someone else, then it does feel as if it’s easier. The samba was the only one we didn’t really have a character.’

Skorjanec, 28, added: ‘If you give yourself a role to play you can hide behind it in a funny way.’
