SAOIRSE RONAN (left) who stars as the Scottish monarch Mary, who clashed with Elizabeth I, in Mary Queen Of Scots. Those who have seen the film, which marks the screen directorial debut of Josie Rourke (the artistic chief of the Donmar Warehouse Theatre) tell me Ronan gives an outstanding performance as the queen who found herself imprisoned because of her religious beliefs. Rourke assembled a first-class cast including Jack Lowden, Brendan Coyle, Martin Compston, Adrian Lester, Guy Pearce, Gemma Chan, Joe Alwyn and Margot Robbie as Elizabeth. The movie opens here on January 18, though it will have its world premiere next month at the American Film Institute Festival in a faraway land called LA. IMOGeN HeaP (right) the composer, songwriter and singer, who was on the Harry Potter Cursed Child stage at the Palace Theatre on Monday to discuss, with director John Tiffany, how she created the haunting score for the two-part, awardwinning show. She explained that one number called Platform 9 3/4 takes place in a train station and was in need of some ‘whoosh’ sounds. ‘So I gave it some whoosh,’ she said. Tiffany also asked her to come up with something that would scare people, for the second half of the production. Having seen the show three times, I can tell you it worked. Heap has created four contemporary suites of music inspired by the score which are being released via Sony Music Masterworks on November 2.
