The baby-faced joyrider who could barely see over the wheel of Rolls-Royce
A BABY-FACED joyrider with more than 70 offences to his name has been jailed for running over a policeman who had pursued him in a high-speed car chase.
Kash Parkinson – who committed his first crime aged 11 – yawned openly in court yesterday as he was sentenced to four years in a young offender institution following a string of offences, about which ‘he could not care less’.
The 18-year-old, who is just 5ft 2in tall, could barely see over the steering wheel of a £200,000 Rolls-Royce in which he posed for a photograph. He has bragged about being a joyrider and even harassed his great-grandmother.
Chilling dashcam footage from June this year shows Parkinson reversing into a police officer – propelling him on to the bonnet of his patrol car – after being stopped in a stolen Ford Fiesta following a 70mph chase in Manchester. Despite suffering whiplash when his head hit the windscreen, PC Christopher Haxby managed to get back on his feet and drew his Taser to detain the thug.
It emerged Parkinson had been released on bail days earlier despite almost knocking down a child in a car stolen from a disabled man – a let-off described as ‘astonishing’ by a horrified judge.
Details of Parkinson’s sixyear one-man crime spree were revealed yesterday at the city’s Minshull Street Crown Court, which heard how the tearaway ‘brought himself up’ with ‘ minimal parental input’.
Despite his tiny stature, Parkinson has been bringing misery to his neighbourhood in Ashton-under-Lyne since the age of 11.
Terrorised residents have reported him for repeated car and motorbike thefts and he was also arrested for drugs offences, assault, burglary and vandalism. He simply ignored a series of criminal behaviour orders and is even accused of targeting his own great-grandmother and aunt.
Parkinson is thought to have been raised by relatives. His mother lives in Leeds with her new partner and child. As details of Parkinson’s long criminal history were read out, judge Mark Savill commented: ‘He couldn’t care less.’
Jailing Parkinson for four years, the judge said: ‘You’re just 18 but have an appalling record and the footage of the pu pursuit I have seen is truly chilling. That police officer could have been killed because of your selfishness.
‘It is a wonder how you didn’t kill or seriously injure a member of the public or a police officer. I know you have difficulties in your life but you have indicated a lack of remorse and have expressed no desire to change.’
Parkinson’s social media features pictures of him smoking suspicious-looking cigarettes and peering down the barrel of a rifle.
He also posted pictures of himself behind the wheel of a Rolls-Royce Phantom parked in a terraced street – the vehicle is not thought to have stolen. Parkinson also spelt out his name in cannabis leaves.
His Facebook page was yesterday filled with gleeful comments from locals thrilled he is off the streets. In court he admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and breaching a criminal behaviour order. He was also banned from driving for five years. Parkinson’s lawyer Mark Freeman described him as ‘extremely immature’.
