L.S. Lowry (1887-1976). The Lancashire­born artist famous for capturing industrial Britain was a rent collector by day, and a painter by night. He painted in his old suits, wiping the brushes on his sleeves and lapels. He loved to paint drunk people, but when he visited his local pub, would drink nothing stronger than orange squash. EDDIE colman (19361958). The Manchester united footballer (right) was nicknamed ‘Snakehips’ for his ‘mesmeric swerve’ to avoid defenders. At 21, he was the youngest of the eight ‘Busby Babes’ who died in the Munich Air Disaster, as the Manchester united team was trying to return home from a European Cup match in Yugoslavia.
