Tesco Finest Argentinian Malbec, £6.50 (normally £7.50), Tesco MADE by Catena, one of Argentina’s best producers, this is the kind of rich, warm red the sudden chill calls for. Bright and bold with bramble and ripe plum flavours, plus a touch of spice. Dangerously moreish.
WHITE WINE
Jean Bouchard Chablis 2017, £10.49, Aldi A BEAUTIFULLY crisp white from the northernmost part of the Burgundy region in France, this is what chardonnay tastes like when grown in a cool climate. Lean and serene with fresh lemon flavours.
FOOD PAIRING: a simple omelette
RED WINE
Il Sarmento Nero di Troia 2017, £5.50, Co-op UNBELIEVABLE value for money, this is a bright, juicy red from the Italian region of Puglia. Stuffed with vibrant berry fruits, it’s like instant central heating for the body. FOOD PAIRING: sausage & lentil casserole
SPARKLING WINE
Taste the Difference Pignoletto, £8.00, Sainsbury’s THIS is similar in style to prosecco. But because it’s made from a different grape and is drier than most, the end result is crisper. Great price for a crowd-pleasing bottle of pop.
