JOHN Parr lied about his age to en­list at 15 with the Mid­dle­sex Reg­i­ment in 1912.

A re­con­nais­sance cy­clist, he and a col­league were sent to scout the en­emy around Obourg in Bel­gium on Au­gust 21, 1914. It is thought he was shot af­ter en­coun­ter­ing a Ger­man pa­trol. He was listed as ‘miss­ing’ and his death was not con­firmed un­til af­ter the war.
