FIRST BRITON TO BE KILLED
JOHN Parr lied about his age to enlist at 15 with the Middlesex Regiment in 1912.
A reconnaissance cyclist, he and a colleague were sent to scout the enemy around Obourg in Belgium on August 21, 1914. It is thought he was shot after encountering a German patrol. He was listed as ‘missing’ and his death was not confirmed until after the war.
