CLAUDIO'S IN-TRAY

-

DEFENCE Fulham have been exposed in defence. While they dominated in the Championship, teams in the top flight have punished them. In 12 games they have let in 31 goals. Ranieri must somehow stop them conceding so often.

GOALKEEPERS They don’t seem to know which of their three keepers is best. Fabri started the season but has not played since August. Marcus Bettinelli came back in. And then on Sunday at Anfield, loanee Sergio Rico was in goal. If the defence is to improve, they’ll need a good understanding with the man in goal.

MITROVIC The Serb was a sensation on loan from Newcastle last season and Fulham fans were thrilled when the club made the transfer permanent. He scored five in his first six this season but has not found the net since September. He is not the same striker without good service and cannot operate successfully in isolation. Can Ranieri get him firing again?

SESSEGNON Fulham have one of the hottest talents around in Ryan Sessegnon. He emerged at left back but Jokanovic moved him further forward. This season, he has played as a wing back, a winger and a wide striker. He has been rested and scored just once. Ranieri must identify Sessegnon’s best role and help him to master it.

KHAN Under Shahid Khan, the club’s recruitment has leaned heavily on data. Understanding how his boss operates will be key if Ranieri hopes to strengthen his squad.

CONFIDENCE Fulham bought 12 players and disrupted the good thing they had going in the Championship. The team lost their identity and confidence vanished. Ranieri must restore unity. It is one of his strengths. ‘Dilly ding, dilly dong’ as they say in Leicester.
