What is the true meaning of Christmas?

DOES the woman who has spent £1,500 on Christmas food, bought yet another traditiona­l silly jumper, despite already owning 40 of them, and 20 new outfits (Mail) expect admiration or envy? Can I be the only one who feels only disgust and pity at such a display of greed and materialis­m?

SINCE losing my beloved husband in 2015, I have found it difficult to go to the supermarke­t at this time of year when Christmas carols and songs are played relentless­ly, with painful reminders of the happy times we enjoyed as a family. So I am glad that some stores are having quiet hours when the lights are dimmed and no music is played.
