MY VERDICT ON THIS WEEKEND’S PREMIER LEAGUE ACTION

-

SATURDAY was a day for the wing wizards. Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane were devastating as they propelled Manchester City to victory over Bournemouth while Felipe Anderson was a flying machine for West Ham. Newcastle could not handle him. It’s little surprise that all three were the week’s fastest players. It’s just a shame I can only get two in my team of the week! I DON’T like to see managers running on to the pitch in celebration like Jurgen Klopp at the end of the Merseyside derby but I get why he did it. After scoring from the bench for Liverpool against Newcastle in 2000 I wanted to fight Gerard Houllier for not starting me. Sometimes, emotion gets the better of you.

IT was a shame not to see Callum Hudson-Odoi at least on the bench for Chelsea. This kid is the next superstar. He is full of confidence, loves to run at defenders and capped a brilliant display against PAOK with his first senior goal. He also took the time last week to meet Chelsea’s Under 10s. Maurizio Sarri simply has to find a way to give him more minutes. Jadon Sancho has set a precedent. Young players are willing to move abroad to play and Chelsea risk losing someone special. ARSENAL have scored a couple of wonderful team goals but James Maddison’s sensational strike for Leicester against Watford was my favourite individual goal of the season so far. I was really impressed by his honesty last week in fronting up for diving. He has responded in the best possible way, proving why he is one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League.
