RE­PORTS of the Nige­rian pres­i­dent’s death ap­pear to have been greatly ex­ag­ger­ated.

Muham­madu Buhari, 76, con­firmed he is alive and well yes­ter­day fol­low­ing claims he has been re­placed with a body dou­ble. Speak­ing in Poland, where he is at­tend­ing the UN’s cli­mate change sum­mit, he told Nige­ri­ans: ‘It is the real me, I as­sure you.’

Ru­mours of Buhari’s demise be­gan last year, when he spent seven weeks in Lon­don for med­i­cal treat­ment. Con­spir­acy the­o­rists claimed a looka­like from Su­dan had been called in to re­place the pres­i­dent, who was elected in 2015.
