Pirate victim says raider linked to her husband’s murder may be innocent
A BRITISH woman who was kidnapped by Somali pirates is supporting the appeal of the only man convicted in connection with her husband’s murder.
David Tebbutt, 58, was shot dead during a holiday in Kenya in 2011 and his wife Jude, now 64, was abducted and held hostage in Somalia for six months.
The only person convicted in connection with the crime is penniless Kenyan farmer Ali Babitu Kololo, who showed the gang the way to the couple’s beach bungalow in the middle of the night.
He was sentenced to death for robbery with violence.
Mrs Tebbutt, from Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, said she did not recognise Mr Kololo as one of the gang and believes his claims of innocence.
She told BBC News: ‘I do want justice, but I don’t want justice at any cost. I don’t want anyone sentenced… when there is any shadow of a doubt over it.’
