Fake medic’s 9 probes

A FAKE psy­chi­a­trist who worked in the NHS for 22 years was in­ves­ti­gated nine times by med­i­cal author­i­ties with­out be­ing ex­posed, it has emerged.

Zho­lia Alemi, 55, used a forged de­gree cer­tifi­cate to get on the med­i­cal reg­is­ter in 1995 when she ar­rived from New Zealand. Her de­ceit con­tin­ued un­til she was ar­rested for try­ing to con a for­mer pa­tient, a widow with de­men­tia, out of £1.3mil­lion.

Alemi, now serv­ing a five-year jail term, was first re­ported to the Gen­eral Med­i­cal Coun­cil in 1998.

Sub­se­quent com­plaints in­cluded pre­scrib­ing in­ap­pro­pri­ate drugs.

The GMC said: ‘We in­ves­ti­gated nine com­plaints and in the ma­jor­ity we took ac­tion to ad­dress the is­sues raised.’
