Classy Cliveden

-

I hAD always wanted to stay at Cliveden to see how the other half lives and to walk in the footsteps of Churchill, royalty and film stars.

My husband and I booked one night last year, and it was everything we had expected. Fantastic ambience, a perfect dinner, wonderful suite and cocktails to die for!

So you can imagine my shock when I watched the fly- on- the- wall Channel 4 documentary A Very

British Country House about this historic hotel.

it was full of loud-mouthed, vulgar and brash people making unreasonable demands on the ever-patient and professional staff.

one woman complained she hadn’t been served crisps with her champagne on the terrace, only olives.

The staff were upset when wedding party speeches overran and the food got cold and bedrooms were left in a mess by thoughtless guests.

i am just pleased i saw Cliveden at its best. PAULA BREWSTER, Dickleburgh, Norfolk.
