MacLeod the late saviour

- LAURIE WHITWELL

TWO days after events in Los Angeles, Brentford echoed the drama of Tyson Fury, rising from the canvas at the last to claim a disputed draw at the Hawthorns. Brentford equalised in the first minute of stoppage time when Lewis MacLeod headed home from Emiliano’s wicked cross. Before that, West Bromwich had dominated the game, taking the lead in the 77th minute when Harvey Barnes scored despite a hint of a push by Dwight Gayle. West Brom ought to have landed the knock-out blows before then, with Jay Rodriguez and Hal Robson-Kanu the most wasteful culprits. The late action meant West Brom only closed the gap to leaders Norwich to five points, and Brentford manager Thomas Frankel had a positive result after six losses from seven games since replacing Dean Smith. West Brom boss Darren Moore said: ‘I am pleased with the performance, it was a dominant display by us.’ Frankel said: ‘In the first half we were hanging in there. But we came back.’
