Trump hands key UN post to ex-TV host
DONALD Trump yesterday nominated as his ambassador to the United Nations an aide who cited the D-Day landings as proof of the strength of USGerman relations.
Heather Nauert, 48, caught the US President’s attention as a co-host of current affairs show Fox & Friends, his favourite TV programme. She became State Department spokesman in 2017 and then acting undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs.
She has made a string of gaffes, including saying in June: ‘Tomorrow is the anniversary of the DDay invasion. We obviously have a very long history with the government of Germany, and we have a strong relationship with the government.’
Her appointment must now be approved by the senate.
