Beauty upgrades
Race you there!
If you love Jo Malone candles, you can’t go far wrong with this.
following Aldi’s best- selling Lime, Basil and Mandarin No 1 candle (a snip at £3.99), Poundland has come up with a new Basil And Lime one which looks unbelievably like the original and much-loved Jo Malone Lime, Basil and Mandarin candle (£47).
With a silver-coloured lid, it even has a little black bow on the top. We know there’s nothing like the real thing, but at £2 and a promise of 50 hours’ burning time, it’s a bargain not to be sniffed at.
GWYNNIE’S TOP CLEANSER
WHILE some aspects of Gwyneth Paltrow’s health and beauty regime may be a little out there, we’re fully on board with her choice of micellar cleanser. One of her favourites is Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micellar Water (£10.80, Boots), which is specially formulated for sensitive, normal to dry skins, and gently cleanses face and eyes.
WHAT’S NOW & HOW TO DO IT... PARTY LEGS
OVER the festive season, it can be daunting to put your bare legs on show. And black opaques simply don’t work with a party dress.
If you need a little help to dare to bare, a light body oil can work wonders. Sanctuary Spa Rose Gold Radiance Precious Glow Body Oil (£14, Boots) has a hint of shimmer, while Alleven London Colour Shield Glow (£42, alleven. com) lends skin a subtle gold lustre. Or try Re-Gen Restorative Face and Body Oil (£6.82, Asda), a brilliant bargain buy which gives tired, dry skin an instant lift.
Do I need a winter moisturiser?
Not necessarily. Although it makes sense to hydrate your skin more frequently in colder weather, your moisturiser doesn’t need to be heavy-duty, as thicker creams can cause blocked pores.
Dermatologist Dr Sam Bunting says: ‘In winter, low humidity, chafing winds and central heating make it hard to lock in enough moisture to maintain the skin’s barrier. So it’s essential to moisturise after cleansing. I encourage my patients to use as little or as much moisturiser as they need, especially if using active ingredients such as retinol overnight.’
try La Roche-Posay toleriane ultra Moisturiser Sensitive Skin (£ 17.50, Boots) for skin prone to dryness; or Simple Water Boost Hydrating Booster (£6.99, Superdrug, pictured left), which helps to soothe tight-feeling skin.
