ONCE a year — over the course of more than three centuries — the villagers of Godholm awake from a deep sleep at the start of the winter solstice. For 24 hours, they resume their old ways, then fall back to sleep for another year. In this cracking fantasy drama PILGRIM: THE WINTER QUEEN (RADIO 4, 2.15PM), the immortal wanderer Pilgrim is caught in Godholm’s twilight world, and has to choose whether or not to lift the curse that lies on the village.

SONGS are sung to the wrong tunes, quotations are ruined by one letter, and much surreal silliness is enjoyed as Jack Dee gets Susan Calman, Barry Cryer and Tim Brooke-Taylor doing daft things in this particularly funny edition of the surreal quiz show I’M SORRY I HAVEN’T A CLUE (RADIO 4, 6.30PM).

IF YOU fancy, the folk at Classic FM are getting our seasonal cheer under way by adding some Christmas sparkle to THE FULL WORKS CONCERT (8PM) each night this week.

THE singer Lily Allen joins John Wilson for this new series of MASTERTAPES (RADIO 4, 11PM), the show that has leading performers and songwriters talking about one of their albums, then performing tracks from it. Tonight, Lily (pictured) shares her thoughts with a studio audience about her album No Shame, which deals with issues such as divorce, substance abuse, grief and maternal guilt.
