Turmeric spices up life

-

WHEN earning a living depends on having a healthy body, it’s important to take good care of it.

This is why yoga instructor Fenella Lindsell (pictured) has discovered the power of turmeric.

Fenella, aged 54, runs her own yoga business in London, called Yoga Forever.

Not only does she hold classes for people aged 8-80. She also organises six yoga holidays a year, some of which include activities such as fitness training, tennis or hiking.

‘My style of yoga is quite physically demanding, and I demonstrate a lot of postures as well as helping to adjust my students during classes.

‘I teach around 140 people a week and in addition play tennis for our local club, run twice a week and play football. This puts a lot of strain on my muscles and joints and I truly believe I could not maintain this level of exercise without the antiinflammatory effects of turmeric to help my recovery.’

Turmeric has long been popular in traditional Indian medicine and is recognised as one of nature’s superfoods.

The spice, a member of the ginger family, is rich in compounds called curcuminoids and is now attracting the attention of scientists, nutritionists, and healthcare professionals, because of the volume of research being carried out on the ingredient.

Fenella’s own research led her to a supplement developed by a Cambridge-based brand.

She says: ‘I decided to trial it and to see if my yoga students might like to as well. It’s been so worthwhile with some positive results. After taking the supplement for almost three years, I can say I am a complete convert and will not be stopping it any time soon.

‘I take the product before I go to bed and really notice the benefits the following morning.’

Years of intensive research led to the development of the formulation. Each tablet combines curcumin with another plant extract called soy lecithin, creating a supplement that is extremely absorbable.

Tests have shown that the formulation is 30 times more bioavailable (better absorbed) than standard turmeric alone.

In fact, it has been the subject of more scientific studies than any other bioavailable turmeric supplement.

This means the unique formulation is known to deliver more of the ‘good stuff’ and therefore more benefits to the body.
