BURNLEY ARE READY FOR CHALLENGE

- JACK GAUGHAN

BURNLEY have rediscovered their grit as Ben Mee insisted they refuse to change for anyone in the wake of stinging criticism by Jurgen Klopp. Sean Dyche has been trading verbal blows with the Liverpool manager since Mee’s tackle left Joe Gomez with a fractured left leg on Wednesday. But Mee, speaking for the first time since the incident, is adamant Klopp will not alter their outlook. ‘We’re not good enough to let people play around us, we need to get about people,’ Burnley’s captain said. ‘We’re in a fight and we want to get out of it. The tackle was clean. It was unfortunate and I send my best wishes to him. The team need to get back to doing what we do. ‘Tackles are part of the game, that’s how we play and we’re not going to change for someone saying we shouldn’t tackle. I don’t see the problem. ‘I knew it wasn’t a bad tackle and anyone who knows football knows it wasn’t a bad tackle. The only thing that affected me was that he hurt himself. You don’t want to see anyone get hurt.’ Alongside James Tarkowski, Mee was pivotal in Burnley keeping Brighton at bay during the last 15 minutes. Joe Hart only had one save to make, spreading himself to thwart Glenn Murray, and Dyche won just his third game since April. Mee admitted Burnley had forgotten their principles and it is believed Dyche has held at least two showdown meetings with his squad.
