Supermarkets’ ‘rancid turkeys’
SCORES of disappointed families hit out at major supermarkets last night for selling ‘rotten’ turkeys.
Many took to social media to post pictures of ‘stinking’ birds from Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Aldi after they went to cook them on Christmas morning.
Leigh Tredget claimed she discovered her Aldi turkey was ‘rancid’ when she opened the packaging on Christmas morning – even though its expiry date was today. She wrote: ‘Opened my Christmas turkey to cook and the thing is rancid. Really disappointed, as our guests will be when they turn up to a turkey-less turkey dinner.’
Another shopper, Natz Smith, wrote: ‘Thanks Tesco. Best Christmas ever with a mouldy turkey! Absolutely disgusted.’
An Aldi spokesman said: ‘We are sorry that, in a small number of instances, we did not meet our usual high-quality standards.’
The other supermarkets apologised to customers and promised to investigate the problems, and also offered refunds.
